AVL Demonstration Gale OneFile Science - Petty

Video: https://youtu.be/LB5WfQpiPSg

The resource discussed in this video is Gale Onefile Science. It has the intended audience of high school students in grades 9-12. It focuses on science journals and article publications in many different disciplines of science. The database has many user-friendly functions that allow students to easily search for topics while narrowing the topics down after the initial search. The database has a quick and easy way to store research in Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive, while also allowing students to highlight and annotate the documents. At the bottom of each article or journal entry there is a citation in many different formats including both MLA and APA formats great for English and science classes. I would use this resource in my class in multiple ways. Number one I would select an article that was related to the topic that we finished discussing in class. Then I would use AI to make a reading comprehension quiz and then discuss the article and the real world application of the topic that we discussed in class. Another way I would utilize the resource would be for students to research a topic off of a topic board and have a presentation of advanced topics in an independent study unit at the end of the year.
