AVL Demonstration

Points of View

The Points of View Reference Center on the Alabama Virtual Library portal provides access to reputable resources on a variety of topics that students could be researching. Articles from magazines, newspapers, and academic journals are accessible. Background information and key terms related to the topics are included as well. Much of the material available would be appropriate for high school students writing research papers, argumentative essays, or preparing presentations. The topics covered are so vast, they would be useful in any secondary subject area. This database would be a good starting point for school librarians to assist students as they begin their research.

  1. Excellent resource Kristen! I have an assignment on the Bill of Rights in my Online Government Class where students apply the bill of Rights to current and historical events. This resource is perfect for it. I love how it gives you background info along with the opposing viewpoints. I admit that have slept on AVL for a few years, but this assignment has revealed they may have upped their game quite a but. I am going to update that assignment in my online course with this resource right now!

  2. This is an incredible resource, Kristen! And your demonstration was very informative. There are a couple of aspects I liked the most. One being the plethora of different resources about a topic. Most impressive were the points and the counter points. Seeing both sides of a topic is always best. My other favorite is the Cite link. Citing is my least favorite part of writing anything so to have it formatted for you is wonderful.
    Great job!
