The video for the database I decided to demonstrate is called Teaching Books. You can click here to access my video.
Teaching Books is a database all about books that teach. The resource is available for all ages. Students can use the video for fun, for learning, to create a reading list, and more. The database has a great feature with audio clips to learn how to pronounce authors' names as well as some background information about the author. Educators can use the resource to help find books for the classroom. My job consists of working with educators and preparing educators so this is a great resource I can share with colleagues and students to help them in their teaching careers.
I looked at this same resource when I was deciding what to cover in the blog post. This is a valuable resource for students and teachers. Some of the books also have videos where the books are read to the students, which would be great for students who struggle with reading, or even when that particular book is not available in their school library. I also noticed a tab that had translations in several languages which would be great for ELL students or even as a teaching tool for foreign language teachers. Teachers could also use the videos of people reading the books aloud for remote learning to save them some time and trouble recording it themselves. I could have used it when I was taking the Library Science course on Children's and YA Books, as I had a difficult time accessing some of the newer publications. I didn't even see all of the homework help links and teaching resource links you demonstrated. Being able to search and sort the books in so many ways - by grade, subject, etc., is really user-friendly. It's just a great resource!

ReplyDeleteOur school's focus is improving community relations with parents and stakeholders. We also focus on connecting parents with the classroom to help their children learn. Therefore, using Teaching Books in our lessons and PLCs allows parents to access the same material as their teachers. Which empowers the parents to help more and be involved in their child's education. Also, Teaching Books allows parents and students build capacity for learning.
ReplyDeleteTeaching Books is a great database for students that will help them stay engaged and improve their reading level. It also is away for teachers to provide interactive lesson and set up activities for students to complete. Some students struggle with reading so having a platform that has audio clips and videos for student will allow students to find enjoyment while reading. Teacher could show students how to set up a Reading Log and hold students accountable for book they have completed.
