I chose to highlight PebbleGo by Capstone for this demonstration. PebbleGo is a database designed for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students that includes several readings, materials, and activities for non-fiction topics. PebbleGo has several databases that schools can purchase including animals, science, biographies, and social studies. If purchased, these databases would be available to all students in the school as PebbleGo has unlimited logins. With all the features available (read-aloud text, videos, maps, games), PebbleGo would be a phenomenal tool for teaching an ELA unit on research, which I know is a requirement under CCSS in the state of Tennessee. This is a resource that teachers may need to demonstrate a few times for students before allowing them to use it on their own or in groups, but it could be used for nonfiction research projects, or as a center in collaboration with a lesson or unit students are learning in class. I would also use PebbleGo an option for free computer time as students can explore topics that interest them. Teachers could also go into PebbleGo and print articles or activities to be used individually during instruction as well. PebbleGo is an excellent tool for teaching the basics of research, and it will certainly have a place in my classroom!

ReplyDeleteWow, PebbleGo looks like a great resource to use! I really like how it gives audio by simply hovering over each animal, as well as reading the information under each tab. I could see how this would be extremely beneficial while students are still learning how to read. The videos showing each animal in real life is an awesome way for the kids to get a good look on how the animal carries itself in the world. Images and videos are so powerful in today's world and PebbleGo looks like a great resource! I wish I could use this for my 10th grade students! You also did a good job demonstrating how to use this resource. Thank you for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a very interesting resource. I love that it gets students learning to research at such an early age! Research is something that, especially in the age of cell phones and Google, people sometimes forget that students still need direct instruction on how to get an answer to a question. The audio on PebbleGo is absolutely amazing! I teach students that are a little above the grade level for this, but I will definitely be referencing this when I give professional development for our county. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful demonstration.
ReplyDeleteI have seen PebbleGo before, but have not used it very much. This would be wonderful to use in the classroom. For this assignment, I focused on a resource that I have not used before, but feel like this one would be more beneficial for the grade I teach. I did not know about being able to just hover over the picture and have it talk to you. Thank you so much for demonstrating PebbleGo.
